Galliano Update - What Will September Bring?

 John Galliano
September is edging closer, the day we find out if John Galliano will be sentenced to prison is even closer and the beginning of London Fashion Week has almost commenced. September is going to be one of those months that’s filled with a mixture of emotions. I simply am filled with all kinds of emotions over the John Galliano case, like any admirers of his work I simply want to forget that such a powerful, creative and talented man can be so discriminative.

If you’re reading this and you’re not too sure what I’m talking about; a couple of months ago the chief designer of Dior, John Galliano was recorded and charged for saying anti-semitic remarks to members of the Parisian public, which in France is illegal; it’s not freedom of speech. Since his case arose in the media three other people have stepped up to say they came under attack from the Gibraltar born designer’s discriminative remarks.

Not only do I want to forget due to disbelief, I’m disappointed that such a man of whom I have looked up to and admired could do such a thing. According to reports he had a problem with alcohol, but that is no excuse. Since his arrest Galliano want to rehab to help rebuild his life. However, since word that three other people have experienced the same kind of treatment and are more than likely to be standing in court, a new “story” has begun to circle. According to news reports John Galliano’s lawyer (a new one after Galliano sacked his previous Jewish lawyer) is saying that the defendant was depressed and became addicted to alcohol, sleeping tablets and valium, he began to pop them  like ‘candy’ and can’t remember making such remarks at all.

Not only is there Galliano’s court case that is held in September; the new creative director of Dior will also be named. On the grape vine I have heard only one name, Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy, but if I hear anything else I will let you know. The predecessor for John Galliano’s own label has already been announced as Bill Gaytten.

September is also the month were spring/summer 2012 catwalks are held at Somerset House for London Fashion Week. It has been two years since I last went and I can’t wait to return their year. London Fashion Week is sure to be a great event to end the month.
